Malta at the ISFA 3v3 World Cup 2026
A historic journey for Maltese street football
Utrecht, Netherlands | 2–4 September 2026
In September 2026, Malta took its place on the international street football stage as the nation competed at the ISFA 3v3 World Cup in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Represented by Birkirkara FC, Team Malta travelled to Utrecht carrying the Maltese flag into one of the world’s biggest international 3v3 street football competitions. The tournament brought together national teams from around the world for three days of fast-paced football, skill, competition and street culture.
For Malta, the tournament represented more than just a football competition. It was an opportunity to showcase the country’s growing street football community and to place Maltese players alongside some of the best 3v3 players and street football communities in the world.
A strong start against Germany
Malta began its World Cup campaign with a disciplined and determined performance against Germany, earning a 0–0 draw.
In a format where matches are played at an intense pace and every possession can quickly turn into an attacking opportunity, Malta showed composure and organisation to keep a strong German side from finding the breakthrough. The result gave Malta an important point and provided an encouraging start to the team’s World Cup experience.
The match also demonstrated the character required to compete at international 3v3 level, where there is little space, little time and constant pressure on the players.
Representing Malta on the world stage
The Utrecht World Cup brought together teams from across the international street football community. The event was built around the unique character of 3v3 football — speed, creativity, technical ability, individual expression and teamwork.
For the Maltese delegation, being part of this environment was an important step in the development and recognition of street football in Malta.
Every appearance in the Maltese colours represented the players, their families, their clubs and the wider Maltese street football community.
More than football
The ISFA World Cup was not simply a competition. Utrecht became a meeting point for street football cultures from different countries and backgrounds, bringing together players, communities and supporters around the game.
The tournament’s urban setting and 3v3 format reflected the roots of street football: football that can be played anywhere, by anyone, with creativity and personality at its centre.
For Malta, the experience provided an opportunity to learn from other international teams, build relationships within the global street football community and gain valuable experience at the highest level of the format.
A milestone for Maltese street football
Malta’s participation in Utrecht 2026 will remain an important chapter in the country’s street football journey.
From stepping onto the World Cup stage to competing against established international teams, the Maltese players demonstrated that Malta can take its place within the global 3v3 street football community.
The experience in Utrecht is not simply a memory of one tournament. It is part of the continuing development of street football in Malta — inspiring players, encouraging new generations and strengthening the connection between Maltese street football and the international game.
From Malta to the world
The ISFA 3v3 World Cup brought together nations under one simple idea: football belongs to everyone.
For Malta, Utrecht was an opportunity to represent the country, compete internationally and experience the unique culture of 3v3 street football.
The journey continues.
Malta. Street Football. One community. One passion. One game.
